El Chuco

Recently, actually, a couple of months ago, I was able to visit El Paso, TX on a trip for a teacher's conference. In typical fashion, I make myself scarce and wander around with a camera, an f100 with a $10 lens. Ive come to realize it's not so much for the camera around the neck/gotta get some images aspect, but more for the desire to absorb another place. Even if it is with an aimless and ineffective walk around a neighborhood... Of course, I didnt make it to the Juarez side (though I was tempted and purposely left my passport in San Anto since I knew once I was there, that temptation would get the best of me), yet even through a wide angle lens you could see the "others" and the world in warfare. Two cities: one of the safest in the US and the other, the most dangerous city of all hemispheres. I can't imagine living in such disparity, or even in its shadows. In the states, atleast Texas, we holler about hood this, ghetto that, and even throw around the word slum every now and then. No longer do we have to fly to favelas and shanty towns to realize we can be full of shit.

no soy el carnicero...

en el meat market..

a couple of shots from an evening, where the day began with a class full of 10-year-olds, a "science night" focusing on aerodynamics, documenting in and out of what seemed like other worlds (or just planets I hadn't visited in a while) and a 3AM drive to Walgreens where I helped a dude out with some change to buy some squares.. to make himself feel better because he had just gotten stabbed a couple of times the night before..

The HP5

Decided to stop being lazy/cheap and just get the materials to process my own BW negs.  The one place in this metropolis and they got M-F 8-5:30 hrs.  I work.  I can't make these hours, its bs.
...

A roll of the much loved, but recently ignored, HP5 bw film.  Once again, a high percentage of satisfactory images because it's film, because it feels good, because you think more.  I got three cities on one roll, including Damian Marley, Bobbito Garcia, Enks and some soon-to-be-framed images of Isabel.  A couple below.

Devin the Dude/ Mojoe Fam

Fade Dogg.
Mojoe Fam.
Devin the Dude...

I've been listening to Devin the Dude for a bit, so it was definitely an honor to quickly chat with him and then play a fly on the wall for a half hour of so.  Such a genuine...dude and hilarious.   Unfortunately, the police around Stone Oak don't have shit to do, the over-zealous stereotype was in full effect.

"Whatever you do, don't ever get caught smoking weed on tour."

- How you doing?
-"Im keeping it funky like fo' fat hoes, in a Ford Focus, with stinky toes that got fungus."
